The NHS Health Check is a free check-up for adults in England aged 40 to 74. It is designed to help spot early signs of conditions such as stroke, kidney disease, heart disease, type 2 diabetes and dementia.
If you are aged 40 to 74 and do not have certain pre-existing health conditions, you should be invited for an NHS Health Check every 5 years. The check usually includes questions about your lifestyle and family history, as well as measurements such as your height, weight and blood pressure. You may also be offered a blood test.
You may not be eligible for an NHS Health Check if you already have certain conditions, such as heart disease, stroke, diabetes, kidney disease, high blood pressure, atrial fibrillation, peripheral arterial disease, heart failure, inherited high cholesterol, or if you are already prescribed statins.
