Bowel cancer screening is offered by the NHS to help detect bowel cancer at an early stage, when treatment is more likely to be successful. The test is completed at home using a Faecal Immunochemical Test, also known as a FIT kit, which looks for tiny traces of blood in a sample of poo.
People aged 50 to 74 who are registered with a GP and live in England are automatically sent a bowel cancer screening home test kit every 2 years.
If you are aged 75 or over, you can still request a bowel cancer screening kit by calling the free NHS bowel cancer screening helpline on 0800 707 60 60.
Please make sure the surgery has your correct contact details, including your name, date of birth, address, telephone number and email address, so that you receive your screening invitation and kit.
If you receive a bowel cancer screening kit in the post, please complete and return it, even if you feel well. Screening can help find signs of bowel cancer before symptoms develop.
