We routinely invite all men in a GP practice in their 65th year. Men over 65 who have not been screened previously can self-refer for a screening appointment by contacting us directly on 01604 523276 – we are happy to arrange an appointment at their own GP Surgery (or a central clinic if their GP surgery is not available). Self-referrals are particularly welcomed from men who smoke/have high blood pressure or have a brother, sister or parent who has or has had, an abdominal aortic aneurysm.
Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm Screening (also called AAA Screening) is a simple ultrasound test that is offered free of charge, by the NHS, to men aged 65 and over. An abdominal aortic aneurysm can occur if the wall of your aorta – the main blood vessel that supplies blood to your body – gets weak and starts to expand. The condition can be serious. Screening can help to find an aneurysm early so that it can be monitored or treated. Screening is offered at local health centres across Northamptonshire, and results are given straight away.
